Welcome

Welcome to our new website and our blog. We are a pair of yogis living, working and playing in La Alpujarra region of Spain where we live with our baby daughter Thalia, our dog Benny and our three cats Tilo, Mushka and Kahn.

We live in an off grid house in a small village called Yegen, near the end of a very long track, where we look after some 70 olive, 14 almond and a variety of fruit trees, which we are slowly getting to know. We are learning to grow vegetables of many kinds, as we become familiar with the seasonal changes of Southern Spain, take rocks from and add compost to the soil, year by year we hope to become more fruitful.

We both have a love for yoga and nature, and have been drawn to work with the 5 element model of Earth, Air, Water, Fire and Space, a way of looking at the world which is universal to all ancient cultures, and that is still very relevant today. As our world has become more technological and linear, we seek to keep a door open to more natural and circular ways of seeing and being.

We teach classes and run retreats here in the Alpujarra, a region which many say is the most beautiful part of Spain. We help people reconnect with the innate intelligence of their bodies, re-orienting them towards health, happiness and flourishing. Through simple practises of movement and breath, it is easy to be reminded of what is really important for both body and mind.

We believe that yoga is for everyone, and create adaptive practises that are suited to all ages, shapes and beliefs. Here in La Alpujarra we are teaching children’s yoga, beginner’s and more advanced classes for adults, and classes for the elderly. We are learning to tailor our practise for a wide range of conditions and abilities, and believe that yoga can be good for almost anything that ails us.

We do not believe that ancient and modern ways of being are mutually exclusive and hope to create bridges between them – that the Baghavad Gita and Rumi, can coexist happily alongside Einstein and Darwin, and that all have much to offer in developing a rich, healthy understanding of ourselves and the world around us.

We will be blogging here regularly, sharing our lives, studies, and love of life, nature and family. We hope you will join us sometime in in a class or on a retreat, and that you will share your understandings with us here in the comments, or in the real world.

Namaste,

Maya and Felix
